Getting to know me…
Yvette is a proud Olde Towne resident and council member whose roles include wife, mother, grandmother, friend, school advocate, committed citizen and community servant at a time where the world is experiencing great change all around us.
Originally born and raised in Philadelphia, Yvette enjoyed a wonderful upbringing surrounded by a close knit family. If you had asked her in my twenties if she would carry all of these titles during this phase of her life, the answer would be no. She is proud to say now, it is the only answer. Having the opportunity to make a difference is something that Yvette is glad to be able to do and enjoys doing.
As Yvette has talked with neighbors, business owners, or just concerned people, she finds that there are many people like her, who choose to make a difference by developing relationships with those who have similar thoughts and ideas of community that will foster growth in living, business, education and leisure lifestyles. For Yvette, her steps towards change have been small but consistent. From volunteering in her children’s schools, to being a member of the Educational Enrichment and Olde Town Advisory committees, volunteering for the various events, serving Gaithersburg’s 10% schools, were just a few ways that she has had the honor of being involved and doing her part in making a change in our diverse community. And now, she has the honor of being Council Member for the entire city! What an exciting time Yvette is experiencing being involved first hand with the growing number of projects currently going on in the city and bringing new ideas for expansion/revitalization in areas such as the Lakeforest/Olde Towne Corridor, developing more intergenerational programs, and keeping our schools as a priority with the continued partnership with MCPS so we ensure that our children’s needs will not be forgotten. With so many new and expanding businesses, mixed use developments, parks, culture and programs on the horizon and with transportation options to relieve our growing communities, Yvette looks forward to ensuring Gaithersburg will continue to be a community of innovative businesses that supports stability, promotes affordable housing and be a premier place to live, work and play.
Yvette would like to continue to serve the community as your Council member to ensure your priorities of neighborhoods, schools, businesses, environment, places of worship and more are addressed with concern, compassion and commitment. As she has been spending time with those in the community listening and finding out their greatest needs; it is clear that it takes all of us working together to make the difference in the place we call home. Yvette will continue to work to be your voice in this city with excellence, responsibility and dedication and she looks forward to doing it one person, business and community at a time.
